Mrs. Hembree,
How many books can a student check out?

Mrs. Hembree

Fri, 12 Dec 2008 10:07:23

Students in grades 1 & 2 can check out two books at a time. Those in grades 3-5 can have three books. Kindergarten students come to the library once a week and take home one book.

How old were you when you started being a librarian?

Dear Joshua Room 28

Wed, 21 Jan 2009 07:26:33

There are 9,000 - 10,000 books in our library! That's about 19 books per student. We get around 300 new books every year. However, many of our books are old and worn out from many years of use and need to be replaced. It's a challenge to provide enough books for all the good readers in our school.

Dear Tesa Room 28

Wed, 21 Jan 2009 07:28:08

(see my answer to Joshua)... There are almost 10,000 books in our library. When I was your age, my favorite book was The Secret Garden, by Frances Burnett.

I have always loved to read. I got a job at the public library when I was a senior in high school... that's when I realized that I wanted to work in a library.

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?

Dear Britney Room 28,

Dear Anthony, room 31,

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 07:04:51

That's an easy question...the oldest book in the library is a copy of the Bible. It's in the reference section of the library.

Thank you for the great question!

Mrs. Hembree

Dear Alex, Room 31,

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 07:06:40

If you ever want to find out the newest book in the library, open Destiny. On the right side of the page you will see a list of "New Arrivals!" On the left side you can find out the top ten favorite books at Fairfield Library.

Mrs. Hembree

Dear Donte, room 31,

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 07:12:59

Yes, we do have some sports chapter books! Matt Christopher writes books about soccer, basketball, and football. Dan Gutman writes books about famous sports figures that have a little bit of the supernatural in them! You can search on your own by typing "sports fiction" in Destiny, or you can ask me or Mrs. Grimm to help you next time you come to the library.

Mrs. Hembree

Dear Rachel, Room 31,

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 07:15:07

You like books that "can be real but are not" ... those books are called "realistic fiction" or "historical fiction." Little House on the Prairie is historical fiction because it is set in the past.

Mrs. Hembree

Dear Mackenzie, room 31,

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 07:31:06

We have many series books in our library. The most popular series is The Magic Treehouse. Others include Junie B. Jones, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and The Hardy Boys.

I love books and I love teaching, so being a school librarian is the perfect job for me! I've been a librarian for 17 years. I hope that you'll find a job that you love someday!

Mrs. Hembree

Dear Mackenzie, room 31

Thu, 22 Jan 2009 07:39:09

The library has a budget every year for buying books. Most of our books are purchased online and have special "library bindings" that last longer than books you can buy at the bookstore. The books all belong to our school. That's why we want to take extra good care of them!

Mrs. Hembree

There are between nine and ten thousand books in our library. That's about 18 books per student. I'll bet you've read more than that!

Mrs. Hembree

Mrs. Hembree

Dear Hannah, room 30,

Dear Ashleigh, room 31,

Mon, 26 Jan 2009 11:16:22

Unfortunately, I have not read the Twilight books yet. I know they are currently very popular, and I'm glad you are discovering what kinds of books you like to read! If you don't find them in our school library, you can get them from a public library, or look for them next year at your middle school library.

Dear Mrs. Hembree,
How many different kinds of books are there in the library?

Dear Emily, room 32

Wed, 04 Feb 2009 11:41:13

Oh my, that's a very difficult question. There are as many different kinds of books as you can think of ways to sort them! Most books are either fiction or nonfiction. There are five main sections in the library: fiction, nonfiction, biography, easy fiction, and easy nonfiction. Each section has a variety of books for every interest!

Mrs. Hembree

hey are all the books in good condition??????????????

Dear Joseph,

Tue, 10 Feb 2009 12:34:07

Many books are in great shape, but not all of them are. Some books are old, and others are worn out from heavy use. Also, sad to say, some have been abused by our students. I try to teach students how to take care of books so they will last longer. I hope you are helping to set a good example!
